Grade level: 6th
Medium: Painting - Weaving - Tempera
Name of Project: True Tints/Hues Weaving
Materials:
xviii" x 24" (46 ten 61 cm) Drawing Paper
(or selection of size) - 2 sheets each.
Drawing Pencils
Kneaded Condom Erasers
Tempera Paint (or Watercolor Pigment
)
Brushes, Pair of scissors, White Glue
Black Construction Newspaper (Optional)
Objective:
Students will be able to produce ii eighteen x 24 (46 10 61 cm) paintings of an fauna (reptile, aquatic, mammal etc) and weave them together to create one last motion picture.
Process:
Laissez passer out ii sheets of 18 x 24 (46 x 61 cm) newspaper.
After students have researched the animal they are going to apply, they are to describe it on i of the sheets. It is of import that the fauna takes upward approximately 75% of the sail.
Subsequently the first film is drawn, identify it under the second sail of paper and trace it exactly like it was drawn on the kickoff. Fix is aside one time is it traced.
Colors should be selected that will be used. A color scheme is suggested. I limit the amount of colors allowable. No more than than four colors and white is not allowed (on the first painting) Black Sharpies can be used to outline final painting on each canvass.
The first painting will not involve any color mixing. It will exist truthful hues right out of the canteen. Paint the entire groundwork i solid colour. Do non add anything to the background if yous don't add together it to the 2nd painting. Both paintings will be the same images (ane dark - one low-cal)
Once you are ready for the second painting, use the same colors used on the commencement painting, but this fourth dimension you add white to each color used. Paint it exactly the aforementioned way the commencement i is painted. This painting will be nada only tints of the kickoff painting.
Go on to weave until complete. Glue all edges together. Laminate if you take access. This projection is a big hit with the kids.
I hate to even mention this might happen, only what if the kids cut both sheets in the same direction? It would truly have too long to repaint the sheet. So, when this happened, I handed out an 18 x 24 (46 x 61 cm) sheet of blackness Construction Paper
and had them weave that into one of the sheets. This checker lath effect turned out nicely.
Subsequently both sheets are dried, cutting one sheet on the weft in 2" (5 cm) strips and the second sheet on the warp in two" (five cm) strips. Weave together, glue starting time row together making certain there are not gaps while you are weaving the strips. To change for the Resource students, I used the paper cutter to cut their strips ( I did not exercise this for all the Resource students, but those that needed obvious aid, I did this for). Be sure to number strips as y'all cut! See detail.
Approximate fourth dimension line:
Twenty-four hour period 1: Research animal and draw out on first canvas.
Twenty-four hour period 2: Finish drawing first sheet and and so trace it onto the 2d sheet. If time allows, select pigment to be used for project.
Twenty-four hour period 3: Begin to paint using truthful hues. Brand certain to pigment the entire background. I only prepare out primary colors, students have to mix colors together to become desired hues.
Twenty-four hour period four-7: Continue painting. In one case you are ready for the second canvass, apply the same colors as the showtime sheet, only this time mix each hue with white.
Twenty-four hour period 8: Cut strips and weave.
Evaluation:
Worth two test grades. Graded on a scale of 100 points.
